Games A Few, Runs Aplenty On Monday MLB Menu
Light night in the Major Leagues as 26 teams had the day off and apparently, so did the starting pitchers of three of the four teams last night.
In the early contest between the Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Indians, starters Dave Bush and Carl Pavano combined for 8.1 innings pitched, 15 hits, and 14 earned runs.
It was an ugly game for almost every pitcher at Progressive Field as the two teams combined for 26 runs.
Pavano has been a disappointment of late after posting such a positive month of May. Pavano had seven starts in May and won five of them, finishing with an ERA of 3.60.
In his last two starts, Pavano has allowed 15 earned runs and four home runs in just 9.2 innings pitched.
In the late contest in the Bay Area, Barry Zito wished he had the night off. Zito had his worst home start of the year as he gave up seven earned runs in just 3.2 innings pitched. His opposite, John Lackey, finally pieced together a good start, last seven innings and giving up just three earned runs, but the typically reliable Angels bullpen nearly blew. They allowed four earned runs in just two innings of work.
There were just two baseball games last night but it was a high scoring night with a total of 40 runs plated.
The rest of the league gets back in action tonight with 14 interleague games and one National League contest.
